Safety

Safety is not an afterthought but an integral part of every solution. That is why we actively guide customers with adapted PPE, targeted training and equipment that meets the right standards and conformity requirements.

Working safely with laser technology

Working safely with laser technology

With the right laser glasses and a well-defined work zone, the basis is already right. Because laser welding works with a class 4 laser, it is important to understand exactly how safety works and where the real points of attention lie. Both direct beam exposure and reflections require a correct approach, for the operator and for everyone in the environment.

The same reflexes as in classic welding largely remain here, with extra attention to eye protection and the immediate environment. That is precisely why at Robustix we always work with the right PPE, a correctly shielded work area and clear training, so that laser technology remains safe, practical and accessible in the workplace.

Personal safety

01

Laser protection glasses (eye protection)

Suitable laser glasses are essential to protect the eyes from direct and reflected radiation in the infrared (invisible) spectrum. The glasses must be tailored to the wavelength and power of the laser used and comply with applicable standards. This is crucial because eye damage can be immediate and irreversible.
02

Protective clothing and gloves

During laser welding, splashes, heat and reflections can occur. Flame-retardant workwear and suitable gloves protect against burns, hot surfaces and metal splashes. In addition, it is best to avoid reflective materials on clothing or accessories to limit unwanted laser reflections. However, it is important to realize that laser radiation can pass through protective clothing in the event of direct contact. PPE therefore provides support, but never replaces the need for vigilance and correct use of the installation.
03

Respiratory protection / extraction

Laser welding releases smoke and fine particles that can be harmful if inhaled. Depending on the application, local extraction or respiratory protection is required to limit exposure to welding fumes. This contributes to both personal safety and a healthier work environment.

Safety of the environment

01

Maintain a shielded work zone

Laser welding requires a clearly defined and shielded zone to prevent uncontrolled exposure to laser radiation. This can be done via a laser cabin, safety walls or shielding curtains with suitable protection against the wavelength used.
02

Restrict access and make the area visible

Only trained personnel should have access to the laser cell. Clear signage, warning signs and any interlocks ensure that unauthorised persons do not unknowingly enter the zone during operation.
03

Control reflections, smoke and fire risk

Be aware of reflective materials in the environment that can reflect laser radiation. In addition, provide sufficient extraction to remove smoke and particulate matter and take fire prevention measures such as avoiding flammable materials and providing extinguishers.
