Isn&#8217;t that actually dangerous? A laser quickly sounds intense, powerful and difficult to control. And to be honest: that feeling is not entirely unjustified. But as with many industrial techniques, the reality is much more nuanced.<\/p>\n<p>The power of a laser lies in its extreme energy concentration. Where traditional welding processes work with an arc, a laser uses a highly focused beam of light (infrared) with a high energy density. It is precisely this concentration that makes it possible to work quickly and precisely. But that same energy also means that unprotected exposure can pose risks, especially to the eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Since the laser beam is infrared, we cannot see it. That is precisely where the risk lies. Because infrared is invisible, there is no natural reaction such as blinking or looking away. You don&#8217;t see the danger coming, but the eye does catch the beam and amplifies it internally. This means that correct shielding and appropriate eye protection are not a detail, but an absolute basic prerequisite when working with laser technology.<\/p>\n<p>Does that mean that laser technology is dangerous by definition? Not necessarily. Just like with classic welding techniques, everything depends on how you handle it. Modern laser systems are designed with extensive safety features. Think of closed cabins, secure zones, interlocks that stop the system when opened, and specific laser glasses tailored to the correct wavelength. Finally, a good education is of great importance.<\/p>\n<p>There are also the risks that you also know with traditional welding. Think of heat, sparks and working with melting metals. This is no different from MIG or TIG, and therefore requires the same attention to extraction and ventilation. In addition, fire safety remains important, especially when you work in an environment with flammable materials.<\/p>\n<p>The difference is mainly in how predictable and manageable the process becomes. Because laser welding is so targeted, the impact zone is smaller and you have less uncontrolled heat or splashing. In many cases, this makes the risk even more manageable than with traditional techniques.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the basic risks are similar to traditional welding, but thanks to the precision of laser, they are often easier to control.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is laser welding safe?
